Livelihood Generation

The fifth tenet of our mission NEHAL is Livelihood. Needless to say, it is also one of the most important ones. The basic testament behind this tenet is the fact that promoting wellbeing and awareness can only do so much, one cannot really help the people in need unless you make sure they are well-fed and have a roof to live under.

It is as the saying goes. Empty stomachs and empty guns are all the same – no use whatsoever.

Afflatus Foundation tries to make sure with all its strength, that its extended family, i.e. the people we work for are not only helped and supported on an educative level but also provide the means to sanction the necessary livelihood. For that, Afflatus Foundation carries out programs that aims at livelihood of people in need from various aspects.

Our flagship project “Ghore Ghore Sanitary Pad” works as a self-functioning mechanism infrastructure that ensures cheap availability of sanitary pads for the women in rural areas as well as a mode of income generation for the women working within the mechanism thus facilitating financial independence and women empowerment. The program is dedicated to empowering women through income generation by promoting the rural sales of sanitary pads. This initiative prioritizes several key aspects:

Women Empowerment: By involving women in the distribution and sale of sanitary products, we help them gain economic independence and enhance their role within their communities.

Financial Independence: The program provides opportunities for women to generate their own income, fostering greater financial stability and self-sufficiency.

Easy Accessibility: We ensure that sanitary pads are readily available in rural areas, breaking down barriers to access and promoting better menstrual health.

Personal Enabling: The program is designed to empower women personally by improving their confidence, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

Afflatus Foundation also works at training the budding youths of the society in the necessary skills with the aim to provide them a means to livelihood.

Our SC/ST Special Coaching & Training Programme, an initiative by the Government of India and managed by the National Career Service Centre for SC/ST, Kolkata (NCSC). This program provides specialized coaching for SC/ST jobseekers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for competitive examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission and other recruitment agencies. Our commitment is to empower these individuals with the resources and training necessary to excel in their professional pursuits. The project particularly aims at specialized education provision to student as an impact project so that the budding youth can successfully gain livelihood in the near future through various gained qualities and assets.

In addition to our rural initiatives, we are also dedicated to enhancing the economic opportunities and social inclusion of women in urban slums through targeted self-reliance programs.

Afflatus Foundation also works towards providing a means to livelihood for the women and girls of the urban slums of Kolkata with the thirst to make a name for themselves and gain independence through excellence. We carry out livelihood generation programmes through sewing training in collaboration with SINGER INDIA. Afflatus Foundation owns a sewing training centre at Nonadanga slum in Kolkata, where the poor women are trained in basic & advanced sewing courses and equally provided scope to exercise their talents in professional fields, thus trying to make them self-independent, empowered and financially stable to some extent. The project particularly aims at livelihood generation and women empowerment through specialized training along with bringing out hidden talents among women.

Our courses in stitching and tailoring are specifically designed to provide practical, marketable skills to women facing economic hardship. These training sessions cover essential techniques and industry standards, empowering participants to:

Acquire Practical Skills: Women learn valuable stitching and tailoring techniques, which are in demand in local and regional markets.

Increase Employability: By gaining vocational skills, participants become better positioned to secure employment or start their own small tailoring businesses.

Boost Economic Independence: With these new skills, women can earn a steady income, contributing to their financial stability and reducing their reliance on external support.

Foster Social Integration: The program also aims to build confidence and self-esteem, helping women to become more active and respected members of their communities.

Apart from stitching, basic and intermediate computer courses are also provided to interested candidates. Candidates also get scopes towards employment based on excellence through various open campusing opportunities from time to time, the latest being quite recent this summer. We are also involved in showcasing various works of handicrafts by talented craftsmen before the world.

Afflatus Foundation believes in the saying that every one is unique, and it is only a matter of grooming and polishing before your hidden talents come out.
